A wheelchair for Enelfredo

The life of Enelfredo Emanuel Pérez López changed on the 15th of November 2010 when he was helping his dad to earn a little bit of money to pay for his tuition fees. On that day, a fatal accident left Enelfredo paralysed at the age of 16. Today he is 18 but he has not given up.

During the accident, Enelfredo suffered a fracture in his vertebral column which left him paralysed and with more problems. The economic situation of the family is very difficult and Enelfredo had to stay in bed all day because he had no possibility to move. Nevertheless, since last year, he has his own wheelchair, sponsored by FUNDAP. FUNDAP is one of the NGO’s that Mainel works with in Guatemala. With them he feels more independent and found new hope.

The way is difficult, especially in a developing country. There are still many difficulties; he cannot study, because he has not found a person yet who could accompany him with the chair. But Enelfredo does not lose his hope:
I had a bad accident which left me paralysed but it did not take my dreams away. I know I can keep going because I am alive and I have a family that supports me and friends like the lady from FUNDAP who don´t leave me alone. I want to learn something that allows me to work from home, I want to continue studying and become good at using a computer, so I can communicate with everyone.

Miss Eunice, from FUNDAP who shared this experience with Mainel:
I am referring to the history of Enelfredo, a guy who inspires and motivates us and makes us keep fighting. I’d like to mention, that we know him because his sister has been taking part in the scholarship programme for girls for many years. I am sure, that this case allows us to find hope again and to overcome obstacles. The ability to help with all our hearts.
