Nicaragua

Mainel’s work in Nicaragua started in July 2000 when an earthquake shook Masaya. Since then, we have worked together with other NGO’s to improve living conditions of the citizens in the new settlement, known as Jardines de Apoyo, which was created to provide shelter to the affected people.

Another important programme is the construction and furnishing of a Social Centre in favour of human and professional development in Diriamba, in the Carazo district. It is being funded by a number of town councils from La Vega Baja region (Alicante, Spain), the Diputación de Alicante as well as Nicaraguan donors.

Mainel has also worked together closely with “Engineering Without Borders” and implemented a health programme within the framework of schools with help from La Generalitat Valenciana en el PEI (Strategic Plan of Intervention) Xolotlan.
